The brief

Mariana’s Secret was developed in about 72 hours during the Ludum Dare 57 game jam. The theme was “Depths”.

My role & contribution

I was tasked with creating the environmental assets, the UI panels and a few of the creatures in the game.

  • Creating the tile map.
  • Creating the geysers that push the player.
  • Creating the sea mines that damage the player.
  • Creating all the other environmental assets, which are purely there for aesthetics.
  • Creating all of the UI panels.

Process

From sketch to build

Tile map: the cave tile set, annotated with the pieces for corners, walls, roof, floor and tight spaces.
Map layout: the whole level, from the surface and kelp forest down through the caves to the lava chamber.
